{"id":510,"date":"2011-11-09T05:00:21","date_gmt":"2011-11-09T13:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/markccrowley.com\/?p=510"},"modified":"2011-11-09T05:00:21","modified_gmt":"2011-11-09T13:00:21","slug":"the-long-and-enduring-power-of-encouragement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-wmplo.xyz\/mark-c-divi5\/the-long-and-enduring-power-of-encouragement\/","title":{"rendered":"The Profound And Enduring Power Of Encouragement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-511\" title=\"Teddy Kennedy Jr.\" alt=\"Teddy Kennedy Jr. Eulogizing His Father\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-wmplo.xyz\/mark-c-divi5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/images.jpeg\" width=\"277\" height=\"182\" \/>During the eulogy he gave for his father, Senator Ted Kennedy, Teddy Kennedy, Jr. recalled a day shortly after losing a leg to cancer when his dad invited him to go sledding on their steep, snow-covered driveway.<\/p>\n<p>Following his first reluctant ride down the slope, young Teddy slipped and fell as he attempted to walk back up the icy road.<\/p>\n<p>Saddened and terribly frightened, he began to cry.\u00a0 \u201cI can\u2019t do this!\u201d Teddy told his father.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ll <em>never<\/em> be able to climb up that hill!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Facing the thousands of people who had filled the church for his father\u2019s funeral, Teddy related how his father responded: \u201cHe lifted me up in his strong gentle arms and said something I will never forget.\u00a0 He said \u2018I know you can do it.\u00a0 There is nothing that you can\u2019t do.\u00a0 We\u2019re going to climb that hill together even if it takes us all day long.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Greatly inexperienced with his new prosthetic leg, Teddy said that his father convinced him at that moment that he was going to be okay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy father taught me our most profound losses are survivable,\u201d Teddy said.\u00a0 \u201cOur ability to transform them into positive events is one of my father\u2019s greatest lessons.
