In her new best seller, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>Higher Ground: How Business Can Do the Right Thing in a Turbulent World,\u201d <\/em>she tells us that her MBA students are not hoping to have careers working for ethical companies. They now <em>expect<\/em> to.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For decades, organizations largely committed themselves to doing whatever was legally allowable to maximize shareholder value \u2013 a singular focus that\u2019s proving to be no longer viable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taylor\u2019s book easily could have been titled, <em>\u201cHow Business Can Do the Right Thing in a Turbulent World,\u201d <\/em>because while shareholders remain unrelenting in pressuring companies to drive stock prices higher and higher, other stakeholders \u2013 customers and employees, especially \u2013 have significantly elevated their expectations of companies over issues like diversity and inclusion, fair treatment of workers, impacts on the environment, transparency and social responsibility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6414 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-wmplo.xyz\/mark-c-divi5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/91PCFXtrHL._SL1500_-150x150.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/>Taylor\u2019s book (the focus of this episode) shows leaders how businesses can navigate this messy paradigm shift, build trust, and achieve long-term strategic advantage in our turbulent world. And she argues, the starting point is for companies to gain new and greater clarity around their purpose saying, \u201c<em>a healthy organizational culture has never been a better source of strategic advantage.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because society itself is so divided, however, Taylor says companies can no longer hope to be all things to all people.
