{"id":717,"date":"2011-09-01T07:00:25","date_gmt":"2011-09-01T07:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/markccrowley\/wordpress\/?p=1"},"modified":"2011-09-01T07:00:25","modified_gmt":"2011-09-01T07:00:25","slug":"hello-world-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-wmplo.xyz\/mark-c-divi5\/hello-world-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Distilled Wisdom From America\u2019s Chief Executives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-570\" title=\"The-Corner-Office-1233100\" alt=\"The Corner Office\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-wmplo.xyz\/mark-c-divi5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/The-Corner-Office-12331001.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/>Have you ever wondered whether American CEOs share similar leadership traits \u2013 whether there\u2019s a short list of qualities which propelled all of their careers?<\/p>\n<p><em>New York Times<\/em> writer, Adam Bryant, did, and interviewed more than 70 top leaders in order to find out.<\/p>\n<p>In his new book, \u201c<em>The Corner Office: Indispensable and Unexpected Lessons From CEOs on How to Lead and Succeed,\u201d<\/em> Bryant says his discussions with senior executives point to five essentials for success \u2013 \u201cqualities that most of the CEOs share and also look for in people they hire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bryant found these five characteristics so common in to managers, in fact, he concluded they inherently represent a magical leadership formula.\u00a0\u00a0 He therefore urges leaders to adopt these traits and confidently promises the rewards for doing so: \u201cThey will make you stand out.\u00a0 They will make you a better employee, manager and leader. They will lift the trajectory of your career and speed your progress.\u201d<a title=\"\" href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So what were the five common qualities Bryant found in top executive managers \u2013 the ones he\u2019s convinced will set us all apart?\u00a0\u00a0 Here\u2019s a quick summary of the list:<\/p>\n<p><strong><!--more-->1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Passionate Curiosity:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The best leaders display a relentless inquisitiveness.\u00a0 They wonder why things work the way they do and whether those things can be improved upon.\u00a0 They ask: \u201cWhy do you do that?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cHow come it\u2019s done that way?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cIs there a better way?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Battle-Hardened Confidence:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They have a proven ability to handle adversity and a track record of succeeding against it.\u00a0 Fueled by a great belief in their own abilities, they\u2019re inclined to both own and solve problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Team Smarts<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Top managers are able to recruit well, build a team, successfully manage it and effectively relate with peers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A Simple Mindset<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They purposely make all communication concise and to the point.\u00a0 They\u2019re also particularly skilled at synthesizing information and, therefore, identifying new business opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fearlessness<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re people who not only manage change but have an appetite for it.\u00a0 They exhibit calculated and informed risk taking \u2013 and routinely challenge the status quo.<\/p>\n<p>There seems to be no question that Bryant believes the numerous CEOs he interviewed collectively have all the answers on how to most effectively lead in business.\u00a0 And it\u2019s impossible for me to argue these five traits aren\u2019t characteristic of excellent leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Comprehensively, they define really clear-thinking and self assured people who passionately pursue high achievement.\u00a0 They\u2019re representative of managers who act as if they own their enterprises and who routinely challenge the status quo.\u00a0 That they also get along well with others ensures their ideas are more easily implemented.<\/p>\n<p>But let\u2019s not forget that a vast number or workers in America are unhappy, disengaged \u2013 and resultantly far less productive in their jobs than is their full potential.\u00a0 This fact alone tells me Bryant\u2019s 70 CEOs haven\u2019t yet made it a priority to value and develop their employees and to proactively support their higher needs.<\/p>\n<p>While Bryant\u2019s list of leadership traits has assuredly propelled many leaders to the highest roles in their organizations, going forward in the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century it\u2019s my conviction that a sixth top quality must be added to the list if leaders want to continue succeeding:<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">See Employees As The Heart Of Their Organization<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They place great and genuine focus on worker satisfaction and retention and, through myriad practices and behaviors, demonstrate to employees that they\u2019re valued and critically important to the success of their organization.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> New York Times, April 17, 2011<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0If you would like to receive these blogs directly, please <a href=\"https:\/\/staging-wmplo.xyz\/mark-c-divi5\/join-the-tribe\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">join my Tribe.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>PS: \u00a0After this article was posted, all of the social media counters on our website mysteriously reverted to zeros &#8212; and all historical share counts were lost.<\/em><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0All links now are working!<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever wondered whether American CEOs share similar leadership traits \u2013 whether there\u2019s a short list of qualities which propelled all of their careers?
