Experience America’s Founding History

Inspired by Boston’s legendary Green Dragon Tavern – where the Sons of Liberty gathered to shape the course of American history – Green Dragon Tavern & Museum invites visitors to experience the story of America’s founding through educational exhibits & programs and California’s premier collection of original documents & antiquities spanning from the Pilgrim through Revolutionary war eras.

As the nation commemorates America’s 250th anniversary through America250 and other Semiquincentennial events, there is no better place in southern California to discover, celebrate and help preserve and promote civics education the legacy of liberty.

A proud member of the San Diego Museum Council, our free-admission museum is located within blocks of the Flower Fields, Legoland and the Carlsbad Premium Outlets so if you’re looking for things to do in Carlsbad, keep the flame of liberty burning and support the only authentic educational attraction in San Diego County focused on America’s founding story.

What Our Visitors Say About Us

“I’ve driven past this place so many times and finally got to stop by for lunch Great drink menu and a standard New England foods. Rueben was great and the garlic fries are fantastic. Highly enjoyed the chowdhar fries. The clam chowder had carrots in it which was different to me but gave it a nice sweetness. Didn’t get to see much of the museum today but looked like quite a bit of history throughout”

“Had a great dinner at the Green Dragon Tavern. I’ve passed by it so many times throughout the years and finally went to check it out. Loved the hospitality! The menu has a wide selection but everything you get is so delicious. Not to mention, the cocktails are amazing.”

“Great restaurant. Love the history of the museum. The food was great. Claim chowder was the bomb. The wife and my son got 2 different lobster rolls which are huge and super good. I got the fish and chips very good as well. The libations are excellent. I will be back for a meal and to spend some real time in the museum.”

What Our Visitors Say About Us

Good service, great food. I got the fish and chips and they were absolutely delicious. The green dragon was super refreshing, very much a cucumber vibe and not very sweet. We have sat both inside and outside, and both times were pleasant. Dogs allowed on the patio, they even brought us a bowl of water for our pups. Food came out at a decent time, they were kind enough to provide containers for us to take home sauces.

Love this place. So on my visit this last year I brought a local who had never heard of it. She loved it. First the building inside has a museum and it is wonderful. Second the menu has lots of good meals. It is really hard to decide which one I want, but I always try to get something different when I come into town. This time it was fish and chips. Delicious. Service was just okay this time. But they get five stars because of the price, the names of the items and the food never disappoints.

Dining here is an experience. I love the small museums of american history and they have a good selection of food that caters to people with dietary preferences.

Good for big groups, the food is good, the service is fast and especially that we were walk in customers in a group of 7 on Sunday.
